One of the numerous privations inflicted upon me after being cast 140 years into the future, was the utter lack of any clothing that bespoke my due place in society. Historical Emporium was of material assistance in addressing this, and in consequence, I will neglect no opportunity to sound their praises.

Purchased for Horace Vandergelder in Hello Dolly; we decided it was time to build our late Victorian costume stock by investing in a few quality pieces. Unfortunately, this jacket reads dark green, not true grey. Also it was folded for so long that there are deep creases where the shoulder padding meets the front of the jacket that I don't would come out without major steaming. I plan to exchange for a wool frock coat, assuming the 40R works for this long-armed actor; otherwise will have to use this one in black (due to the unfortunate greenish tinge of the grey cotton).

A nice looking coat but was advertised as cotton but in reality is only 75% cotton. Might get to use this if I change the buttons. Good fit though.

I ordered this and several other items for my daughter's upcoming wedding. The entire package arrived several days earlier than expected, and I was skeptical of the purchase, but once receiving all the items I realized the material quality was high the fit was perfect and the price was great. I could not have bought a suit for the same price. I am amazed at the outstanding customer service from historical Emporium. I even had to change my pants size day after I ordered and it was corrected and I received the proper fit.

Looked great, fit well, terrific details on the back. Pair this with a top hat and some plaid pants and you're good to go!

Halloween 2023 is the event. Haven't decided as to how it will look or feel. Just being in disguise like everyone else. It's funny as to how many adults dress up for Halloween.

I spent many hours trying to find a frock coat close to where I live in Portland, Oregon, and came up empty. Then I went online and discovered The Historical Emporium and the Callahan Frock Coat. I measured my actor and when the coat arrived shortly after I ordered it, I tried it on him and it fit perfectly. He is portraying Harvey Scott, the long-time editor of The Oregonian newspaper, so he had to look dignified. Plus, we are filming the short play he is in, so I could not get by with some kind of cobbled together fake frock coat. Our grand daughter has chosen the theme of late Victorian for her wedding. Her colors are red and Gold. The first coat, shirt and pants that I ordered were too big and I needed to return them for the next smaller size. The exchange was accomplished within 5 days. A company rep. was very helpful when I called about the problem. The replacement garments are a good fit although I will need a small alteration to the vest because my middle is larger than my chest. Quality & workmanship of clothing is excellent and I expect that they will last for many years.... and Never go out of style. Thank you! I plan to order additional items in future.

Fits well, but I am looking for an all-wool morning coat.

I needed a new coat to finish off my outfit for a special event celebrating the 50th anniversary of Dickens on the Strand this year. This cutaway morning coat fit well, has classic style, and was just what I was looking for to feel like a gentleman for the evening.

Fairly expensive for a cotton/poly coat, but it looks pretty good. We will see how it holds up over time.

Right from the box, my new coat looked great, and exactly like what I wanted. As I tried it on, it actually fit perfectly. It's going to be hard to wait till the Christmas Candlelight Tour of Homes to wear it, but I'll try... I would recommend this coat to anyone interested in stepping back in time for Events.

I'm creating a mid-1800s clergy outfit and this coat, with the matching trousers (and suspenders) arrived quickly and, though the material is thicker than I would like, they fit as sized and only needing to shorthen the sleeve length and trouser hem. Amen :-)

This Livingston cutaway sack coat is a very well made coat with an all round tailor-made look & fit's me well the sizing was spot on to my size that i ordered. This is an excellent addition to my Old West wardrobe & highly recommended as a purchase.

The Livingston cutaway sack coat is a VERY NICE coat for the money . It runs true to my standard suit coat sizing and fit me perfectly . The only problem i had was that the top button hole was sewn too small for the button . Easy fix for me so i just handled that problem in house.

The product came in good condition, and it was very sturdy and well made. It was just a TINY bit stiff when we took it out, so trying to get it into a more natural shape to put on our actor was a little tricky indeed. The pants were not the correct size , so I think on the next order we would check more closely on the style and the sizing of trousers .Overall very satisfied with this company and it's products. I already left a review for the tan chore coat which prompted me to buy the blue one a few weeks later. Not much else can be said about this chore coat other than that the texture of both coats are very different but equally impressive. It’s almost as if they’re two totally different chore coats. The blue chore coat is a more casual friendly, coat while you can really dress up the tan coat with a more semiformal look. This is one of the best chore coats being sold on the market at a phenomenal price. The construction is top notch, the coat itself has a very nice heftines to it, and I love the taper waist line, which really shows off the physique. As always historical emporium never disappoints.

The shipping time was very fast. The fit and finish of the coat is excellnt. The historic styling is spot on. The quality of manufacture is again excellent. I highly recomend this coat for both modern use and second half of the 19th century historic impression. I have bought clothing for historic shooting events with Single Action Shooting Society and National Congress of Old West Shootists, for many years with Historical Emporium. I receved this coat faster than expected. I checked it over very well and the qualitty is excellent. I have yet to wear it , but if the multitude of other clothing that I have purchased at Historical Emporeum, I'm sure that I will be well pleased.

We attended a Murder Mystery Weekend set in 1890 and I wanted a coat for the occasion. The size was perfect and I really liked the styling. It took me less than five minutes on the website to find what I needed and order it.

Excellent coat, high quality, and perfect fit. However, it was a bit heavier than I wanted and returned it for exchange. Nice coat and had that period look and feel. A good fit for the actor I was building a period costume for who was leaving for a film shoot in Austria. The only problem I found was that the p coat buttonholes are too small for buttons. Very difficult to open and close. Since, the actor will be leaving the coat open the problem did not have to be remedied.

I love the coat. I had to take it to the tailor and have the sleeves take up but otherwise it’s perfect.

Nice quality garment. It looks great on my husband.

I purchased this for a costume design for Watson and it worked lovely! We were able to Quick Rig it on and off the actor so quick costume changes were possible. Will be buying time period stuff from here always!

Very well made. Heavy frock coat. My correct size is 44R but it was too big in the shoulders. It's such a nice coat I choose to have it altered rather than spend it back.

Having been a Civil War reenactor for almost thirty years, in various time periods, I like the look of a frock coat. And wonder why they were ever shortened to the sack suit. The Emporium is my go-to shop for period clothing. I only wish I could afford more!

The Emerson Frock Coat is very well put-together. It's a little heavier than I was expecting. Not too much so but, with a cardigan, would make for a quite reasonable Fall weight overcoat. The inner pocket is a bit higher than one might expect, but not at all difficult to access. Just an adjustment going from my Coburn to this (plus left/right transition). Very happy with the build quality, fit, and finish.

This coat is exactly what I was looking for it is well worth the $$$$

What a very nice, well made coat! Upon receiving, this coat is exactly as it shows in the pictures. It hangs perfectly and all seems are tight. The material is very nice, tuxedo quality. The Callahan frock coats are the best value frock coats that the Emporium offers; I have one in each colour!

The frock coat is well made, looks good and a fair price for what it is. I am happy with the coat, but wish there were a few changes. The padding in the shoulders feels a bit too stiff and bulky, something with a more natural shoulder shape would be nice. I was also a bit disappointed with the weight of the coat. The site does state the weight clearly, so this was more built up in my head, but a coat with this design, but made of a heavy material (such as wool), would be amazing. All in all, a good coat and I look forward to seeing what other coats Gentleman's Emporium releases in the future.

The coat is nice over all, well made. But I expected(wished) more rich looking fabric. Also because of thin fabric , I can see through the metal part of covered buttons. I think it may be easy to torn. I wish that more measurements are available when purchasing.

Good fabric, nice details on the back vent of the jacket. This gives it a tailored look even though it fits a spectrum of sizes. We were very pleased.

Fabulous style!

I read some of the reviews and one said that they ran small so I ordered a size up and it turned out to be too large, but I returned it for the next size down and it fit great. Love it!

Theses frocks are great... I might get one of every color.

Depending on your outfit it might be good to plan a size or two larger. Especially if you're planning to wear a shirt + vest. Other than that the coat is excellent. I'm a fan.

The Khaki Frock Coat is darker than I expected, which is exactly what I wanted since the brown color was sold out. Nice quality, and well made, this coat is just right for warmer days and nights, since it is a fairly light weight coat.

I have taken my charcoal Callahan frock coat to a tailor who says that the "balance points" are all off and the sleeves sewn on incorrectly. Perhaps it would be a good idea to have your coats (and other items that should fit according to formal standards) manufactured in a country, and by people, that are familiar with weraing these type of items...?

My experience with polyester, including blends, has been a love-hate thing for a long while. I have to watch what I spend on any one costuming item, so it makes certain things attainable for me... but generally doesn't look top-notch, or lacks a bit in how it's put together. Sometimes, though, I get lucky. This coat is an example. The fabric doesn't have that awful polyester shine that even some blends have, and it feels quite comfortable. The fit is nice, though a little roomy in the shoulders. But when worn with a full outfit, it looks right. I happen to prefer a two or three button front, but the color won me over, and I have to say that I feel the desire to buy the other colors. Oh, to be wealthy!

Again, another well made product. Not ecstatic about the material, but I understand the economics and am glad it was affordable.

This coat was poorly constructed. I took it to the tailor and he could not fix the puffiness in the shoulders because it was not made in a way that could even be fixed without rebuilding the whole coat. He didn't have the fabric, so this was not even an option, not to mention the expense. I found a different coat online that was better.

I have to say i am very happy with this coat.

The coat was well put together and the material being polyester was as I expected and acceptable. The shoulders, however, made me look like I was trying to try out as a linebacker. I took it to my tailor which I use for minor adjustments and he said that the shoulders were designed for a size 44 whereas the coat was a 38. He would have to take out two inches of shoulder and rebuild them. The total cost of tailoring was more than the cost of the coat. I've been highly pleased with the shirts and pants but this is my second strike with the frock coat.

I had to appear in a morning coat suit for a formal academic event with European protocol (the men wore either their academic regalia or a morning coat suit). It turns out that the coat is not easy to come by in the US, but I was fortunate to run across the Historical Emporium's website. They had the right coat in my size in stock and shipped right away. It's a nicely made coat in exactly the right style, although the materials are modern, light weight and comfortable. I'd certainly buy from them again should the occasion arise.

I love the cut. It flatters my body and is overall great quality.

Received the coat and tried it on immediately and noticed how light it was, which was a very big plus for the temperatures that we find on the middle Gulf Coast of Texas. The sleeves were about 6 inches too long, but that was good since the wife can sew (I can too, but only when I have to) and she could fit it to my arm length. Very happy with the coat so far and see no issues at this time!

We were using this jacket as a costume piece for a show. It arrived in record time which was great. We also needed an extra large size which wasn't easy to find anywhere else. The sleeves needed hemming but that 's ok better than too short. The coat was well made and can be kept for future endeavors. It looked amazing and really added to the character.

This is a good, basic coat - not particularly heavy, and the fabric is basic, but it works on stage

If you got your measurements done well this coat is a wonderful fit. I did some research on how the coat should drape on the person, and this rests really well on me. I am below average height for a Caucasian male in between 5'5" and 5'6". The morning coat is longer than is traditional due to my shorter stature, but I don't mind that at all. It looks like it was tailored just for you if the measurements were done right.

Quality of sewing is not very impressive, not well finished and pretty cheap quality. Not impressed with the manufacturing so it would be hesitant to purchase anything else.

This is not the first one of these I've bought. The ones I have for myself have held up over several years of occasional use. This was for my niece's "white coat" ceremony, now that she has proven herself in the family ranks of super geniuses.

I am 5’7”, 195lbs. I ordered the med/lrg. It is big. I knew it would be long after reading the reviews and expect it to be loose but it is BIG. I feel like a child in my dad’s shirt. I’ll attempt to talk my partner into some alterations for a better fit. All that said, this is a nice lab coat. Heavy fabric, much better than a costume piece. It does have a chemical/plastic smell, I believe from packaging or storage. If adequate measurement were added I’d give this 5 stars. Overall nice product.

I decided on a mad scientist costume for our Halloween party, but was disappointed with the quality of the costumes I found. I risked spending a little more on this lab coat and was very pleased with the material and construction. This was my first order from Historical Emporium, but unlikely to be my last.

This coat was a little big on me and required some refitting on the edges, even after ordering a small. If you are also a small guy, make sure to consider that. It looked great and was perfect for halloween and will be used for many years!

6'2" and 220 lbs here. The Medium/Large fit really nice except for some short sleeves. Cosplay has gloves so this is actually a plus. The XL/2X fit like a circus tent - definitely for a plus size fella or someone who wants to do their own tailoring. Everything else is as expected. Super thick fabric.
