I just returned from Tombstones "Helldorado Days" where I wanted to get my photo taken with the Earp brothers and Doc Holliday. I had wonderful black Frontier Classics trousers, red apache scarf, grey tweed vest and white banded collar shirt. I ended up hating the shirt. It made me feel like I was choking. I bought the Sinclair Edwardian shirts in all the colors available and LOVE them. With the proper ties I can leave the collar unbuttoned, breathe and still look good.

I most recently had the opportunity to attend a “Black Tie Chic” event. I did not want to purchase an entire tuxedo- what do to? I turned to the myriad of shirts at Historical Emporium to put together a “look”. To include the Tuxedo-look of the Sinclair Edwardian Club Collar Shirt and Gold Vest. Well let me tell you I looked sensational- some folks came up to me and said I looked dapper. I was worried about size but the shirt xxl fit fine- great cotton feel. I did have a bit of a problem with the vest - which I will comment later. Bottom line - I will definitely be a repeat customer. Thank you.

The shirt was supposed to be and feel midiam. But it felt large. Didn't fit me right.

I ordered this and several other items for my daughter's upcoming wedding. The entire package arrived several days earlier than expected, and I was skeptical of the purchase, but once receiving all the items I realized the material quality was high the fit was perfect and the price was great. I like Frontier Classics shirts except that the sleeves are usually too short for me. I’m over 6’ 2” with longer than average arms and legs. The fact that Historical Emporium stocks extra long, or ‘Tall’, versions of the shirts is perfect. I haven’t found them anywhere else (which is why I bought the shirt from them rather than from a supplier in the UK). I wish the long versions of Frontier Classics shirts were more widely available because this one I’ve bought is very good.

I do period recreations and Steampunk cosplay. I needed a shirt for a new cosplay not to dissimilar to the office outfits worn on The Gilded Age on HBO Max. This shirt is very close to what I was looking for and the price was not bad. It matched the frock and waist coat I got for the cosplay very well. Understand in period, many white shirts were off white and not stark white. I love the texture and color difference. If you are looking for a more casual Late Victorian/Edwardian shirt, this will do the trick.

One of my favorite shirts. Fits perfectly, and looks great. Good quality, and great for those who want that true western 1800's look. It also looks great with my antique 1879 A.W. Co. Waltham with key pocket watch. Would recommend!

Online comments said the shirt fits on the large size so I went with the fit chart and bought a medium instead of the usual large and it fits perfect. Plenty of shoulder room and arm length is exact. Beautifully made. Shipping was really fast to Canada.

Very good quality, nice and breezy and handy for summer. And the collar style makes it versatile, so you're paying for two different shirts in one. It's quite baggy around the stomach but a waistcoat takes care of that. I ordered 2XL and it fits me perfectly, which is pretty good for something I bought online. With the collars starched up, I think it probably looks best with a deluxe western-style bowtie or a cravat.

For a 2xl I found the neck to be quite small, but still satisfactory.

I wanted to get a comfy yet slightly stylish shirt for a Steampunk convention and this one is perfect. I live in a hot climate and tend to get overheated easily. This shirt did a good job of keeping me comfortable. It's loose but not so billowy that it looks like a pirate shirt. The collar is just right for a casual look or a slightly dressier look when paired with a vest and tie - which is what I wanted. It's held-up really well in the washing machine. No loss of shape. Great shirt!

This shirt makes me look more like a Victorian gentleman, especially when I have the collar stand up. Its a good addition to my wardrobe and I always feel like a Victorian gentleman when I put it on.

Nice sturdy shirt, that is comfortable to wear. Size does run big but I do like my shirts to be roomy.

I love this shirt. The material and cut make it good for dressy occasions, but it isn't overly formal and great for everyday wear, especially with a four-in-hand or bow tie. Like many of your products, it's a staple of my daily wardrobe. Now my eye is on either the white or blue one for summer.

Not that it's a bad thing, but the cotton of this shirt is lighter than some of HE's other shirts, similar to the club collar shirt. It's still good quality and it's nice to have a lighter weight for hotter days or more layers. Just a good thing to know. The steel top button is cool.

I have been looking to upgrade some of my Steampunk gear. I've done it piece-by-piece and one of the last ones were black shirts. Now that I have these, I think what I have for this character is pretty good. I still need to accessorize more, but this means my basic gear and garments are set.

I'm sensitive to fabric textures, and this shirt (stolen from husband and altered) is my go-to. It's a lovely high quality, has stood up to 6 years of washes so far with very little fading and no pilling at all.

This shirt is great, versatile and comfortable. There is but one very minor issue with this shirt, from my standpoint anyway, cannot wear cufflinks with this shirt. It fits well and looks good in all respects. I would easily recommend this shirt to others.

I purchased the Victorian Men's Dress Shirt with the High Stand Collar in black for my steampunk Halloween costume. I paired it with the Crimson Commander's Vest for a factory forman/ engineer look. Following the sizing guide I was a bit nervous of the fit, being a Plus-sized gentleman. I was quite surprised to find the product properly enveloped me. For once I have an awesome costume that isn't being unduely stretched by my figure. Will Buy Again.

Noel recommended the Virgil Shirt to go with the double breasted vest to add versatility to the outfit. The shirt can be worn with the collar up or down for different looks. It fits perfectly. What can be said about the functional simplicity of a white button up shirt, especially for period-accurate costumes? The shirt is high quality, the fit is nice as long as you take the time to take your measurements and order the appropriate size, and what was perhaps the most surprising aspect of this shirt: it's extremely comfortable. The shirt is 100% cotton and feels very, VERY, nice on the skin and is very breathable. Pairs well with sleeve garters and bowties as well. Overall, great!

This is a very well crafted shirt that certainly looks time appropriate. It also wrinkles as though it is. The tailoring is excellent and the size fits true to size.

I have bought Virgil Shirts in the past because they do have a left breast pocket and the overall look is very 1880's. It is big enough to wear as a night shirt as well. I had to unload previous shirts and trousers after I lost 200 pound since my last order three years back.

I am always wary of ordering clothes by mail or from the internet, but I needed a Victorian/Edwardian club-collared short, so I took a chance when I stumbled across The Gentleman's Emporium. To say the least, I'm glad I did.The shirt (of very high quality) fits perfectly (which isn't all that common as I lift weights four day/week). So why the "two perfect fits" title? Given this initial experience with the company, I'd say The Gentleman's Emporium is going to be an equally perfect fit for me. (Expect more orders.)

Looked on many other sites for rounded collars and had little luck. Gentlemen's Emporium had a great selection and the sizing recommendations were accurate. It's a great shirt.

5' 9" and 170 lbs here. Large fits great. A touch longer in the sleeves than a normal modern shirt, but the onlooker wouldn't notice. Makes it look correct for reenactments too.

I was a little disappointed in the blue Liam shirt because I also have the navy blue color which I like but the stile of the lighter blue is different doesn't seem to be the same fabric and the front down the buttons where there is a little trim piece needs another button it gaps when you sit down

Having purchased a few flannel shirts now, this one is of a much different material. It is thinner and I am hoping it will make a nice shirt for when it is warm out. Not having a conventional collar, I have found it looks very dressy while buttoned all the way up, relieving me of having to wear a tie in dress-clothes situations.

I wanted an old-style shirt to wear with an old-fashioned vest I occasionally wear. The shirt is exactly as presented on-line and goes perfectly with my vest.

Historical interpretation

Back in the 80s I used to do a lot of Civil War reenactments and had several shirts similar to these work shirts that I was able to get from the sutlers we would buy uniforms from. I always loved the way they fit and looked but had not been able to find since them. I found these, and ordered one, just to see the quality, and how they fit. Once it arrived, I was amazed, and happy. They look great with a vest, whether I am playing music, or riding my mule! I now have one of almost every color!

I own a good half dozen of these shirts ...love the look and feel and they are very comfortable to wear. For no special occasion as I dress in this kind of shirt everyday! But then I know I was born in the wrong time anyway......

This is going to be a gift for Santa himself, AS HE LOVES THESE PUFFY SHIRTS when wearing his vest overtop of the work shirt. I believe I will be looking for a few more for next yera and the year after that.

I ordered 3 different shirts and vest/ pants. All great quality. Clothes run true to size *however* - I am barrel chested. My neck size is a 2X but I needed a 3X to fit my chest. This would not be an issue for most folks so just a note in case it does matter to you.

The shirt looks exactly like the photo. Nice fabric. I like the puffy sleeves. I have not washed it yet. I hope it does not shrink.

Plastic buttons are out of true period, but works.

Definitely get the shirt heavily starched or make your own from rice flour. The collar should always be very stiff.

My husband is a tall thin guy and the small was a perfect fit for him. It looks great and the buttons and stitching is very high quality. Would definitely buy again from these guys.

Very nice looking and comfortable shirt that is well made in a good quality cotton. Size is a bit bigger than expected, but after a cold wash and a tumble dry it shrunk to a perfect fit.

I am into Steampunk, and this is the conclusion of attire I needed in its creation. I had several other shirts that just couldn't fit the bill for various different reasons. When I put the shirt on with my other clothes and then finally the face mask I created, the shirt gave an added debonair look that made me say only one thing. "EXCELSIOR!!"

Loved the fit and the style and the %100 washed cotton. Exactly what I wanted.

This isn’t a costume shirt, it’s a dress shirt designed to the style of a former era, so I expected a lot and it is nearly perfect. Purchased for a Regency/Bridgerton costume to wear with vest and stock. My husband has sensory issues (autism, ADHD) so nothing but a cotton or linen shirt works. This was the only 100% cotton one I found. Seams and buttonholes are dress shirt quality, as expected. No loose threads. Collar has a loop on the back to secure a tie. Collar is double thickness and opaque, stands up on its own but will need ironing and starching. Body of the shirt is slightly translucent - without a vest, an undershirt will be necessary, but it will be cool in summer. Cut is era-appropriately boxy to loose. Lots of ease across the back with pleating. My husband is a chest size 44, but shoulders are 46 so we ordered XL. Turns out he could have sized down to L, as the shoulders are 1/2” past his natural shoulder, but as Regent shoulders were drop shoulders anyway, we’re keeping it. My husband is 6’, but with a 31” inseam so his torso fits like a 6’2” person. The length is perfect, and even at 6’4” you likely could get away with it, though it may be a little harder to keep tucked in is you’re doing more than walking and sitting. We’re very pleased with the shirt and I suspect he’ll look for other occasions and ways to wear it, because it’s so comfy. Photos are hung up wet to drip dry. Relatively wrinkle free, but needs ironing and collar...

Our grand daughter has chosen the theme of late Victorian for her wedding. Her colors are red and Gold. The first coat, shirt and pants that I ordered were too big and I needed to return them for the next smaller size. The exchange was accomplished within 5 days. A company rep. was very helpful when I called about the problem. The replacement garments are a good fit although I will need a small alteration to the vest because my middle is larger than my chest. Quality & workmanship of clothing is excellent and I expect that they will last for many years.... and Never go out of style. Thank you! I plan to order additional items in future.

I interpret as an undertaker in Ohio in 1898. We provide a variety of events including working/living in a 19th century village. I fully recommend this shirt as it looks very good/authentic and it's comfortable.

Perfect for formal wear and using it for a cemetery tour I was involved with. Just don’t do like I did measure you neck size and go with it. I ordered my usual dress shirt size and it was way too big.

Although I have not worn it yet, I did try it on. It fits well, the sizing guide was correct. The only disappointment was the buttons. I had to change them out to white bone buttons, which I will again change out to white glass buttons when I have more time. When trying to recreate a period look, clear plastic buttons is not the way to go. Otherwise no complaints. It shipped faster than I thought it wood and seemed to have it overnight.

Good quality shirt and ample arm length for the taller man

Wish the sleeves were 1-2 inches shorter. Will use garters or rubber bands to address issue. Sleeves to long for size based on neck fit.

This is a quality product! When the product arrives, the material feels thin; but after one run through the laundry the material fills out and you can appreciate the quality of the cotton and the stitching. MAKE SURE that you measure yourself using the instructions provided at Historical Emporium's web site for best fit. If you find yourself at the larger end of the sizing, go a size up as a loose fit will look more authentic and will be more comfortable. You will have to iron this shirt, it is 100% cotton. I have found it best to tumble dry for a few minutes to remove excess water, then hang dry for best wear. Hope this helps.

We ordered per the size chart and the size L was actually larger than the chart says (in the neck measurement). So, we had to send it back and order a medium. Medium fits perfectly. Looks great with his Victorian tux and tails costume for historical dancing. Thank you!

I love wing collars and the addition of the cuff-link and stud option to a 100% cotton Victorian dress shirt was a very welcome and wise change to this product. I am delighted with my purchase and wear it often. In fact, I am wearing it (with the Guilford waistcoat) as I write this review. I will almost certainly pick up a second at some point.
